Developer Mojang announced that support is ending for both seasons 1 and 2 of Minecraft: Story Mode and that players will have until June 25 to download and update the game before it is removed from all download services.
Then Mojang changed the price to $99.99 per episode on the Xbox 360 marketplace Xbox Live.
The strange move was required according to the Minecraft: Story Mode Facebook account. When delisting the game players became unable to download or update the game. Mojang wanted to dissuade new purchases of the game and chose to re-list the episodes at a price point no one would reasonably pay.
Later in the post Mojang dissuades potential purchasers from buying the game, warning “The price shown is a real list price, please do not buy the content, if you do, you will be charged the amount shown. This is simply the only mechanism available to facilitate players being able to download their remaining episodes prior to servers shutting down.”
Once June 25 hits, Minecraft: Story Mode will be removed from all platforms, including Xbox 360, and the $99.99 episodes will be gone forever.
