Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft: Classic will be releasing worldwide August 27, with closed betas starting May 15.
World of Warcraft: Classic is a recreation of the original World of Warcraft game that released in 2004. Because of subsequent patches and updates to the game, developers decided to use the patch 1.12 Drums of War from 2006, as it “represents the most complete version of the classic experience” according to a Blizzard update.
Players can opt into the closed betas through their account but will have to meet certain criteria before being considered to beta test the game. Even then, the number of players who get in to the test will be restricted.
Starting August 13, players will be able to create and customize characters before the servers go live. Players must have an active subscription before being able to create characters.
