Sony’s State of Play is out and with it some much anticipated updates, trailers, and some new releases.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Let’s start with the game everyone is talking about: Final Fantasy 7 Remake. After several no-shows at events like E3 and TGS, developer Square Enix has a brand new trailer briefly showing off the updated graphics and gameplay while maintaining the atmosphere of the original.
Cloud, Barret, Aerith, and the AVALANCHE mercenaries are all fighting against the Shinra corporations soldiers, machines and monsters.
Sony did not give much more information about the remake, other than more information will be available in June, which would fall in line with E3.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
Next up is Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Releasing worldwide on September 6, the Iceborne DLC features a new location, the Hoarfrost Reach. This icy environment will pit players against returning monsters like the Nargacuga and a new elder dragon, Velkhana, who will play a major role in the new story.
Each weapon type will also receive new attacks in the DLC and an updated Clutch Claw let’s players grapple on to monsters during combat.
Sony did not say much more other than to wait for E3 for more information on the expansion.
Predator: Hunting Grounds
Described as an asymmetrical online multiplayer experience, Predator: Hunting Grounds puts the player in the shoes of either the Predator itself or a team of the elite Fireteam in a fight for survival.
Players will carry out missions to secure important items or take out enemy combatants using a wide array of weapons while another player controlling the Predator hunts them down with stealth and advanced fire power.
Developer IllFonic along with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Fox will be releasing more updates in the near future, with a 2020 release date planned.
The action-adventure remake from the PlayStation era is back just in time for Halloween, launching October 25.
The new story trailer walks viewers through the life (and death) of ir Daniel Fortesque as he attempts to restore his honor and kill the evil wizard Zorak once and for all.
Away: The Survival Series
From developer Breaking Walls comes Away: The Survival Series. Taking a cue from nature documentaries, players will follow a little Sugar Glider through a ruined world plagued by natural disasters and powerful predators.
As shown in the trailer, players will control the adorable Sugar Glider as they navigate broken pipes, ruined buildings and stare down spiders and other predators.
In order to make the game feel more like a documentary, Breaking Walls partnered with award-winning composer and audio director Mike Raznick to compose the score. Raznick has previously worked on Planet Earth II and Life documentaries.
Breaking Walls did not provide a release date but said to expect updates soon.
Cococumber’s voxel “shoot and slash” dungeon-crawl adventure game Riverbond has players teaming up with some familiar faces to explore a bright and frantic world.
Partnering with several other indie studios, players will get to play as characters from Bastion, Enter the Gungeon, Guacamelee!, Psychonauts and more.
Riverbond also features couch co-op multiplayer so players can explore the world with their friends.
Cococumber did not have an exact date of release but said to expect Riverbond this summer.
